I saw a guy walking down the street the other day and I could have sworn he was Regé-Jean Page of Bridgerton fame. He was a beautiful man with the most perfect proportions. I took a double take and then remembered I was in public and to refrain from making a scene!

However, I just could help but notice how captivating he was and I thought about what makes him so attractive and the next guy walking down the street, well, not so much. Well, it’s called science. In fact, it’s math AND science.

Didn’t think that was going to be the answer did you? It’s called The Golden Ratio of Aesthetics. The Golden Ratio, refers to the Divine Proportion and states that when a line is divided into two parts in a ratio of 1: 1.618, it creates the most perfect proportion a human can possess in facial and body symmetry. This ratio can be applied to all of the spatial measurements between the parts of the face creating the perfect human face.

Therefore, if you have these proportions you are humanly perfect. Unfortunately, perfection in humans is not only rare but impossible. So, how do we get near that perfection? We improvise. If you weren’t born with near perfect facial proportions, you have to learn how to deal with what God gave you.

Many men want as many tips as they can grapple with to find out how to look like a male model. If you weren’t born with that perfect, chiseled, scientifically perfect face and body, then there are things you can do to get closer to perfection.

How to look like a male model

Move that bod!

You can’t have chiseled features, cut abs and ripped biceps without putting in the work. You should be working out a minimum of one hour per day. However, you should work out until there is “muscle failure”, in which your muscles will start to give out and you will have to stop. This usually results in 10-12 repetitions of any given exercise.

Having a body like a model doesn’t require hours of weightlifting. To the contrary, models should be lean and fit with muscle definition. However, too much muscle can be built with a lot of weightlifting, so ensure you are only achieving definition, not bulk.

Cardio is also very important to keep lean. Ensure that you are taking on sessions of cardio that total at least 30 minutes, three times per week so that any excess fat can be burned. Cardio is also great to gain energy and focus, which is very important.

Male models make physical activity a top priority and don’t only spend time in the gym, but they make activity a part of their life. Join an intramural soccer club, shoot hoops with your friends regularly or go swim laps at the pool. This is a great way to stay in shape, make friends and network for all of the plans that you have for yourself.

You really are what you eat

Your body will represent you according to what you are putting in it. If you are a couch potato and can’t wait to get home from work so you can binge watch that new series on Netflix while stuffing your face with pizza, you’ll be able to see the result of this reflected in the mirror. Likewise, if you get up at 5am and put in the work on the treadmill and in the gym, that reflection will be much kinder.

Protein and foods high in vitamins and minerals are very important in keeping a lean body. Limit carbohydrates and sweets and try to lay off alcoholic beverages as they can be dehydrating. Drink at least 125 oz or 3.7 liters of water a day to keep you in tip top form and your skin glowing. Yes, even men can have glowing skin just like a model.

Becoming metrosexual should be a daily regimen

If you get your haircut by your aunt and bite your nails, you may want to check that, sir! Male models look impeccable all of the time. They get their hair cut professionally every six week, manicure their nails and use products that help them maintain a healthy skin routine. This is important for male models so that they can always look their best.

They also go the extra mile by using teeth whiteners and getting their nails professionally done, especially before a shoot. Dedicating the extra time to any one of these items may not make a big difference on its own, but collectively you will be able to see a difference and looking like a male model can definitely be achieved.

Dress to kill. Everyday.

Walking around town in your flannel and favorite NFL team hat is fine for an occasional lazy Saturday, but don’t make it a habit. You should be dressing to impress everyday. Put some money into your wardrobe and make sure you are wearing flattering, trendy and interesting clothing.

Study male models and what they wear from head to toe. The entire package matters. Choose fashionable clothing that enhances your body and lets others know you are capable of representing any brand. Pay close attention to your shoes, as they are one of the most important items in a man’s wardrobe. Make sure they are clean and scuff-free.

Work on that mojo, I mean walk…

Male models know how to handle themselves. From their walk, to their posture to the way they hold their body, models act the part no matter where they are. Study how models walk the catwalk and practice by taking video of yourself while you try to improve your gait. Look at advertisements in magazines and online and practice posing. A guy that knows how to carry himself lets others know he’s ready for business at any moment. You never know when that casting director might be lurking at the park or at your favorite poke haunt.

No matter what your goals are in your life, looking like a male model is not only achievable, it’s good for you! By taking these tips, you’ll find that you will feel more confident and learn something new while these positive vibes result in bettering your life.
