You only get one shot at a first impression, so make it count. Here are 5 things you need to do on Instagram before applying to a modeling agency. If you haven’t done these things, stop, go do them, then apply. Your chances of being selected will improve greatly and put you ahead of other models.

Make Your Instagram Account Public

Instagram is one of the major ways models are scouted today. Your Instagram account can tell us so much about you as a person and a model. If your account is set to private, we can’t see any of that, and will just move on to the next application. No modeling agency will take the time to wait for you to accept their request before seeing your images. If your account is set to private, you’ve probably already lost the opportunity.

List Your Country

Your country, or your country flag should be in your profiles. We need to know where you are living in order to know how good of a fit you’ll be for various projects. Often though we’ll see models who will list their birth country, even though they are living in the United States or another country. If you want to list your birth country too, put your flag and then put “living in” or -> then put the country you are living in. We will then know exactly where you are and what you can be hired for.

Don’t Delete Good Pictures

If we see and Instagram account with under 5 pictures we usually just move on. The reason is that you are being hired to promote a product or brand, and if you are in the habit of deleting pictures, how can we be sure you won’t delete the promotion when you get bored of it.

Successful models should have a long history of pictures on their social media. If you constantly delete your pictures and start over, most brands will not want to be associated with you.

You should however delete old bad pictures that are unprofessional or cast you in a bad light.

Get in the habit of routinely posting good pictures that you like, and then leaving them up forever.

List Your Other Social Media Accounts

If you have another social media account that is big, list it on your Instagram account, we will go check it out. This is especially true if you have a YouTube channel. We want to know how many ways you can help promote brands and what your true following is.

Make Your Account Advertiser Friendly

Ask yourself if your account is something brands would be proud to be associated with. Go look at the brand pages for some of your favorite brands and see if the content resembles what you are showcasing, in terms of language. Most brands are fairly conservative with their language, while prospective models are often not. Many models take themselves out of the running on this one without even knowing it.

Ok, you’ve done it, now go ahead and APPLY!
